{"id":2635,"date":"2022-07-06T12:48:38","date_gmt":"2022-07-06T12:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/finbit.co\/?p=2635"},"modified":"2022-07-06T12:48:40","modified_gmt":"2022-07-06T12:48:40","slug":"giving-voice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/finbit.co\/am\/2022\/07\/06\/giving-voice\/","title":{"rendered":"Giving Voice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>On 13<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;April, during a project visit in Kasokwe, a village in Eastern Uganda, the L-IFT team met one of their research&nbsp;participants Kasobya Eunice, the mother of four young boys, expecting her fifth child.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A listening ear<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During our talk with Kasobya Eunice she explained to us what she appreciates most about our research: \u201cIt was like somebody understands you, somebody listens.\u201d She felt as if she was finally given a voice. Through the regular interviews that were carried out by Anthony, who according to her \u201calways listed and understood\u201d, she was able to tell her story.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/l-ift.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Eunice-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1618\" width=\"-11\" height=\"-10\"\/><figcaption>Respondent Kasobya Eunice with Researcher Antony Nyende<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>A learning process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/l-ift.com\/giving-voice\/#_ftnref1\"><\/a>Kasobya Eunice emphasized how much she learned from all those questions that were posed over and over again throughout the six-months research process. The financial literacy questions, in particular, made her aware of things she did not know. Interest rates, loan conditions, and how to calculate some sums are not just alien concepts to her\u00a0anymore. What impacted her life the most was learning about savings. \u201cI save all the time.\u201d\u00a0[1]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>An eye-opener<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The questions posed about how tasks and roles are distributed within the family were an eye-opener to her.<br>They made her become aware that everybody can do everything. She realized that it should not necessarily<br>be a question of gender, but that\u00a0\u201cit can be different.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/l-ift.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Eunice.jpeg\" alt=\"Eunice\" class=\"wp-image-1617\" width=\"-221\" height=\"-294\"\/><figcaption>Eunice\u00a0and her kids examining\u00a0the solar lamp she has received for participating in the research<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Receiving input<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What Kasobya Eunice would have desired were more questions about normal life.
